Testing Services

Maryland State law does not require homeschoolers to participate in any achievement or assessment testing. While families have the option of having their children take the Maryland State Assessment tests through their local public school, many families are more comfortable seeking testing services outside of their local school system. Read our FAQs to get more information about educational testing for homeschoolers.

  • Individualized Achievement Testing
Using the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement - III (WJ-III), students are assessed in the areas of reading, math and writing.
  • Reading Assessment
For children experiencing difficulty with learning to read, progressing with reading instruction, or reading comprehension.

  • Writing Assessment
An evaluation of a child's ability to express themselves with written language.

  • Math Assessment
For the child who seems unable to grasp math concepts or consistently apply math skills.

  • Interest, Skill & Career Assessment
Career counseling isn't just for public school students. Now, through Hand In Hand, homeschoolers can take the respected, nationally normed, Online Campbell Career Interest and Skill Survey. Your child will receive a personalized 20-page report and Career Planning Guide to use in your educational planning and as a guide for the future.

Cost for private testing begins at $225.
A sliding fee scale is available for eligible families.

Cost for the online Career Assessment is just $20.

We keep in mind that most homeschool children have little or no experience with standardized testing. We maintain a maximum level of test environment integrity while making the experience a comfortable one for the children. Our most important priority is obtaining valid results that will help you, the parent, make the best homeschooling decisions possible; while helping your child feel good about themselves.

As always, test results are kept completely confidential. Parents are the only ones to receive a complete score analysis of their child's performance. It is left to a parent's discretion whether or not they share the results with their county or umbrella reviewer.

Hand In Hand Educational Services also works with homeschool co-ops as part of their admissions process. We offer special pricing for all co-op members, along with assistance in using the test results for appropriate student placement in co-op classes. Contact us today to discuss your co-op's testing needs.
